How to Configure a Widget

To understand the various terms that we used on this page, make sure you have read: About Widget.

There are two methods to add configuration items, namely through the Widget Configuration Window and through the XML Editor.

Through the Widget Configuration Window

  1. Check the available configuration items in the Widget Configuration Data. In this example the used widget is Popular Posts Small Thumbnail - (View).
  2. In the Widget Configuration Window click Add New Item - (View).
  3. Enter Configuration Name into Site Name and Configuration Value into Site URL and then Save. Here is an example of adding a range configuration: View.
  4. Follow the same procedure to add other configuration items. Here is an example for adding some configuration: View.

Most configuration items are not mandatory. Uncofigured configuration items will use Default Values.

Through XML Editor

By using Widget Configuration Window configurations are added manually one by one. To quickly add all configurations, you can do by using XML Editor with the XML Widget Settings.

  1. Backup More details: How to Backup Blogger Theme.

  2. Add a unique item name through the Widget Configuration Window. In this example, the item name added is my_search_target. The value can be arbitrary - (View).

Adding my_search_target item will help us to find the target placement easy in the XML Editor. Ensure the added item name is unique (not yet present in the XML) so the search result points to a single target.

  3. Access the XML Editor. Search for the text my_search_target - (View).

  4. Copy XML Widget Settings from the Widget Configuration Data - (View). Some widgets have XML Widget Settings in two languages; choose according to your blog content - (View).

  5. Replace all old XML Widget Settings with the XML Widget Settings you copied - (View).
  6. Save the changes.

At this point, the widget has all configurations with default values. You can adjust these configurations through the Widget Configuration Window - (View).
